These playing cards are a collection of face cards inspired by the typeface Masqualero. This specific typeface was created by Jim Ford, and he was influenced by the jazz musician Miles Davis. I wanted to use the same idea of jazz and music into the theme of my playing cards.
Back of Cards
For the backs of the cards, we were required to use the specific letter that corresponds to each face card. I wanted to create compositions using both the upper and lower case of each letter, with varying colors and opacity.
Face Card Illustrations
For the face cards, I was really inspired by jazz art that used bright colors and blocky illustrations. I wanted to keep my figures very simple and uniform with each other. I used the same shadows and simple colors and shapes to create each one.
